Frequently Asked Questions

Expert answers to help you get the most out of your printable tools.

How do I print a D&D battle map to the correct 1-inch scale?

To print your D&D map exactly at a 1-inch scale, download the Toolivance PDF and open it in Adobe Acrobat or your browser. In the print dialog settings, you must set the "Page Sizing & Handling" option to "Actual Size" or "Scale: 100%". Never use "Fit to Page" or "Shrink Oversized Pages," as this will alter the 1-inch grid dimensions, making it incompatible with standard 28mm miniatures.

What is the best paper ratio for cross-stitch patterns?

The ideal grid ratio depends on your fabric's Aida count, but standard graph paper often distorts stitch designs. Our dedicated Cross-Stitch Grid Generator allows you to create perfectly square cells that match standard Aida cloth counts (like 14, 16, or 18 count). For specialized knitting, we also provide a 4:5 ratio grid, as knit stitches are typically wider than they are tall.

Are these PDF grid generators truly free for personal use?

Yes. All of our online generators—including our hex map makers, engineering graph paper, and math worksheets—are 100% free to configure and export as high-resolution (300 DPI) PDFs for personal use. For professional Dungeon Masters or commercial creators looking for editable vector files (SVG) and advanced campaign templates, we offer premium bundles in our shop.
